Mission and Ministry

Lent 2017 –

At CCHS we kicked off this Lenten season with our Ash Wednesday liturgy.  Lent is a season for prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Ultimately, we seek to draw closer to Christ and become more attentive to his presence in our lives.  Here is how Cathedral is providing opportunities for students this Lent:
Prayer:
  • Adoration: Students are invited to join us for Adoration of the Eucharist on Friday mornings during Lent.  Adoration begins after morning mass on Fridays, starting March 10th, and concludes before lunch.  Students can sign up for a prayer time here.
  • Morning Mass: Mass is celebrated every morning in our St. Therese chapel at 7:15AM.  Students are encouraged to come pray with us during this Lenten season!
  • Penance Services: All students will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 29th and 30th in their Religion classes.  No sign up is necessary.  Students can also seek out our priests on Campus anytime they wish to celebrate this Sacrament of healing.
  • Bible Study: CCHS Campus Ministers will host Bible studies on Tuesdays during lunch in the Office of Mission and Ministry.  Please join us!
Fasting:
  • Our dining services is committed to our Catholic Identity and the call to fast from meat on Fridays during Lent.  No meat will be served on these days. Lent menu
Almsgiving:
  • During Lent, CCHS is raising money for our inner-city Catholic elementary schools.  Many of these schools rely on our fundraising efforts to offer a Catholic education to those who may not be able to afford it.
  • Our Lenten drive will kick off during LIGHT group next week!  Students will be given dates to bring in money to their Red 1 classes for our inner-city Catholic schools.  Please be generous!
Let the Office of Mission Ministry know how else we can support you in your
Lenten journey! If you have questions, please email Ms. Purpera (apurpera@cathedralcatholic.org) or visit the Office of Mission and Ministry!

Mission

The mission of CCHS Campus Ministry is to assist the CCHS community in the development and growth of a flourishing spiritual life. Guided by the Gospels, the Church, its ministries and Magisterial teachings, Campus Ministry aims to collaborate with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and pastors to reach this goal. We recognize that God has given each of us unique gifts to respond to His call, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to build His Kingdom of a living Christian Faith Community.

Objectives

  • To proclaim the Gospels.
  • Through action and deed to promote the ideals of faith, knowledge, honor, and responsibility.
  • To provide opportunities for the CCHS community to grow spiritually in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • To educate and encourage action regarding contemporary moral and social problems, as well as to urge people to work for peace and justice in our world.
  • To bring the community to a greater appreciation and involvement in the liturgical celebrations of the Church.
  • To compliment the general goals and objectives of the Diocese of San Diego and Cathedral Catholic High School.
