Faith in Action Immersion Experiences

Service, Advocacy & Exploration

Mission & Ministry is thrilled to offer many opportunities for service, learning, advocacy & exploration.   We offer local, regional, national and international experiences (depending on the safety of the international destination).

  • Locally, students choose from local service opportunities including a weekend at the international border with Verbum Dei High School and advocacy at the San Diego Walk for Life (https://www.facebook.com/SDWalkForLife/).
  • Regionally, students travel to Los Angeles for two unique experiences with HomeBoy Industries (https://homeboyindustries.org/) an organization working with former gang members and the St. Francis Homeless Shelter (https://www.stfranciscenterla.org/) as well as a weekend at Verbum Dei High School (https://www.verbumdei.us/about-us-home/our-philosophy), a Cristo Rey school in the Watts area of Los Angeles.
  • Nationally, students participate in an educational faith-based conference hosted by the Jesuits in Washington DC (the Ignatian Family Teach-In) or may participate in service in Appalachia at Nazareth Farm, a Catholic community in rural West Virginia.
  • Internationally, students have traveled to Nicaragua serving with Amigos for Christ, a nonprofit organization that facilitates water, health, education, and economic development in rural communities.  At this time we are exploring other international opportunities due to unrest in Nicaragua.

For the 2019-2020 school year, Mission & Ministry is excited to offer the following:
