Do you need community service hours? Come tutor an elementary school student for one hour a week for 7 or 8 weeks. Join others and participate in the Encinitas, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach STUDY BUDDY program. STUDY BUDDY applications are available beginning Thursday August 31 and Friday September 15 in the Counseling Office or can be downloaded from www.sandieguitoalliance.org. All applications are due back no later than Friday September 15. Orientations will be the week of September 25.
Augustana College is hosting a Division III College Sports Talk in San Diego on Tuesday, September 19. During the event, students will learn:
What to consider when researching colleges for their sport(s)
The ins and outs of the Division III athletic recruitment process
Why a Division III college can be a great athletic AND academic fit
The talk will be led by Grey Giovanine – Augustana College Head Basketball Coach and Basketball Times 2015 National Coach of the Year. A light dinner and refreshments will be provided at the event. Students, families, counselors, and coaches are welcome to attend and may REGISTER HERE. Please feel free to pass along the invite to your school’s Athletic Directors as well. Catalyst Prep will once again be hosting SAT and ACT Bootcamps on campus at CCHS. Catalyst describes their bootcamps as “momentum-boosting two-day seminars that guarantee students march into the SAT or ACT with every key strategy fresh in their minds”. The 2017 Cathedral Catholic High School College Fair is on Thursday, October 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Claver Center Gymnasium. This free event attracts over 175 colleges and universities from the U.S. and abroad. To register, please visit http://www.gotocollegefairs.com/.
The NACAC Performing and Visual Arts College Fair will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at University of San Diego – Hahn University Center. This fair is especially for students interested in attending schools that specialize in dance, music, liberal arts, photography and theater and more. This event is free and open to the public. Beginning on Wednesday, September 20th, the College Counselors will host weekly Working Lunch Wednesdays in the Academic Center (formerly, the library) during lunch. We welcome you to bring your lunch and work on college applications with one of our college counselors. We will be there to help answer any questions and provide feedback on college essays. Senior Parent College & Financial Aid Night is on Thursday, September 21st at 6:30 PM in the Guadalupe Center Theater. The CCHS Counseling Team will present information about the college application process and discuss the types of financial aid commonly used to fund a college education. No RSVP is required.
Looking ahead….There will be a Coffee with Counselors for Senior Parents on Friday, October 13th in the Lecture Hall at 8:30 AM. This informal event is an opportunity to meet the CCHS College Counseling Team and ask general questions that you have.
