SENIORS –

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, aka FAFSA, form opened on October 1st. This is your first step toward getting federal aid for college. From the FAFSA website, “completing and submitting the FAFSA® form is free and quick, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school. In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.” The FAFSA must also be completed in order to be considered for the Cal Grant. More information about the FAFSA and the online application can be found here.

The Cal Grant is a financial aid program administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). It is the leading source of California state funded student financial aid. GPA requirements. Cal Grants can be used at any UC, CSU or California Community College, as well as qualifying independent and career colleges or technical schools in California. To qualify, you must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by the deadline and meet the eligibility and financial requirements as well as any minimum GPA requirements. Because the CSAC moved up its deadline from March 2nd to October 1st for high schools to submit students’ verified GPA’s, students will now be notified as early as November if they’ve qualified for a Cal Grant award. Students should create an account at the Webgrants 4 Students website to manage their Cal Grant account and to find useful tools and resources.

Parents of Seniors: The College Counseling team will host our Coffee with Counselors for Senior Parents today, Friday, October 13th, at 8:30am in the Lecture Hall. We would like to take this time to help answer questions and address topics that you feel are important. Below is a link to a Google Form. We invite you to share any general questions that you have with us. The form will be open for you to complete through Tuesday, October 10th at 11:59pm.

FRESHMAN –

The CCHS Counseling Office is excited to be offering optional group presentations for ninth grade students and parents with our counselors to map out a 4-year academic plan on Wednesday, October 18th (7am or 2:45pm) or Thursday, October 19th (7am or 2:45p).

Attendance to these presentations is not mandatory, but an opportunity to learn more about what classes best meet you/your student’s needs.  Please note a student may attend alone; parents are not required to attend.  Please indicate the number of people, including the student, that will be attending on your registration.  An iPad with Notability will be required for the presentation.

A reservation is required to attend as presentation sizes are limited to ensure a smaller group setting.  Below is a link to sign up via Sign Up Genius HERE.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to your counselor for assistance:
