College rep visits for the week of November 13th:

Wednesday, 11/15: Hope College (7:45 AM)

Thursday, 11/16: University at Buffalo, SUNY (7:45 AM) and Southern Utah University (9:15 AM)

The Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Program offers selected sophomores from high schools in the U.S. and abroad the chance to participate in the State Leadership Seminar. “HOBY’s flagship program, the State Leadership Seminar, empowers high school sophomores to develop their leadership talents to become the leaders of their community. The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society.” The 2018 State Leadership Seminar will be held at Chapman University in Orange, CA on June 8-10, 2018.

CCHS is allowed to select and register one participant and one alternate. The fee to attend is $225 ($395 for the alternate). Sophomores may self-nominate by submitting an essay of 500-750 words on the topic, “Describe something you are passionate about and explain how you could lead others to care about your cause.” Please submit your essay to Mrs. Flynn at no later than November 27th. The submissions will be reviewed by our School Counselors who will choose two sophomores to represent CCHS at the State Leadership Seminar.

A “Coffee with Counselors” will be held for parents of juniors on Friday, December 1st, beginning at 8:30 AM in the Lecture Hall. This is an informal gathering to meet your students’ college counselor and ask questions about the transition from school counselor to college counselor, the college timeline and the preparations and actions junior students should focus on as they enter the second half of junior year. Light refreshments will be served. No RSVP is necessary.

Syracuse University is hosting Admissions Interviews in the San Diego area on Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th. While they do not require interviews, many of their programs are very selective and interviews can strengthen an application. The interviews are conversational in nature and will allow students to ask questions, as well. Students who are interested in interviewing can sign up online at the following link:
