CCHS Champion Equestrian Team Brings Home the Ribbons!

The Dons Equestrian Team completed their 2017-2018 IEL show season on Sunday, January 14. Our team placed fourth overall out of forty-five teams. We are extremely proud of securing the fourth place (white ribbon) because we are a small team compared to our competition.

The varsity team won Champion six out of the eight shows, and one Reserve Champion. Additionally, Cathedral took Western (Gymkhana) Reserve Champion thanks to Ciara O’Connor who performed incredibly at every show. In Varsity Hunters and Equitation, there were outstanding performances by Carly Flatley and Elizabeth Breitmeyer. Congratulations to Taber Ball for winning the 2018 Varsity 3’6″ Medal Finals. Phoebe Fleming and Lina Gruber showed strong in Varsity Jumpers. New to the team this year, Emma Early had consistently strong performances in Junior Varsity Hunters and Equitation. Congratulations go to Emma for winning the Junior Varsity 3′ Medal Finals. Ashlin Gayken and Chloe Staples are a formidable team in dressage. After an amazing season last year, Ashlin Gayken came back and did it again, consistently bringing home blue and red ribbons. Freshman Chloe Staples had great success in dressage also, proving to be a strong addition to the team with her fair share of blues and reds.

Karina Lyon showed strong in Freshman Hunters and Equitation, and more importantly, came to support the team even when she was unable to ride due to a soccer injury.

While we had great success at the shows, and are certain to bring home trophies at the OCIEL banquet in April, I think the most important thing that came from this season is a renewed sense of comradery and team spirit. The team had a great time together and we look forward to an amazing season next year! The mini ponies will be back for homecoming 2018…

Special thanks to our coach and trainer, Dayle Fisher, who makes this team possible. We couldn’t do it without her!
