Course Description: Advanced Placement Studio Art is a course that is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP Studio is not based on a written examination. Instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. Students may submit either a Drawing or a 2-Dimensional Design portfolio. AP Studio Art is divided into five California Fine Arts Standard’s components: artistic perception, creative expression, historic and cultural context, aesthetic valuing, and personal relevance. This course is taught at a faster pace than other courses, involving higher level thinking skills, along with outside projects and readings. Therefore, it is important that the teacher, student, and parents agree to commit the time and energy needed to complete it successfully.
