US History

Students in grade 11 study the major 20th century turning points in American history. Following a review of the nation’s democratic beginnings, students build upon what they learned in tenth grade World History to better understand the emergence and impact of new technology and global economics, including the social and cultural effects. Students trace the role of the United States as a major world power. Emphasis is placed on the expanding role of the federal government, major social issues, and a set of freedoms and political principles basic to citizenship in a global society. Emphasis is placed on strengthening college prep reading, writing, and research skills. A research paper using MLA style is required.

World History

World History students, in grade 10, study major turning points that shaped the modern world from the late 18th century through the present, including the cause and course of the two World Wars. Students trace the rise of democratic ideas and develop an understanding of the historical root of current world issues. Students develop an understanding of historic issues and relate them to their historical, geographic, political, economic and cultural contexts. Students consider multiple accounts of events in order to understand international relations from a variety of perspectives. Emphasis is placed on strengthening reading, writing and research skills.
