AP Biology

This is a college biology course taught in the high school.  At the end of the year, the students take a standardized exam that determines their eligibility for advanced placement and/or credit in college biology courses.  The course covers a vast amount of material and thus makes heavy demands on even the best-organized student.  In addition to a thorough reading of a college textbook, the students perform and write up numerous laboratories; answer study guide questions for each chapter; participate in various class activities including brief presentations, hands-on activities, and debates; and write several brief papers summarizing scientific articles that they have been assigned.  Also, twelve unit tests and two cumulative final exams are taken over the course of the year. Students are expected to take the AP Exam, which will cost about $100.00 and will be given on Monday, May 10, 2010.
