Students in grade 9 read pieces from at least six genres, while building solid vocabulary and grammar skills and academic research skills using the Big6 strategies. Students practice creative and expository writing focusing on the paragraph first semester and multi-paragraph thesis-driven essay second semester.

English 2

Students in grade 10 continue their study of literary devices and close reading through study of all genres of world literature.  They focus on writing thesis-driven literary analysis essays and applying their academic research skills (using Big6 strategies) to produce a thesis based research paper using MLA format. They continue their study of vocabulary and grammar to prepare for standardized tests and effective written and oral communication.

Extra Credit Opportunities!!!!

1.  For 5 pts. Extra credit, visit a peer tutor after school M-Th from 2-4 in the library.  Fill out the extra credit sheet, have the tutor sign it, and bring it to class!

You may also access tutors online.  See me for information.

2.  There are several Films that you may review and connect ot our curriculum for Extra Credit: Anonymous, Clash of the Titans; Wrath of the Titans.  You may earn 10 points for each review.
