AP Statistics

Course Description:  Students learn the four major themes of outlined by the College Board for AP Statistics:  Exploratory data analysis, planning a study, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference.  Motivated math students may take this course concurrently with Pre-Calculus or AP Calculus.  Students are required to take the AP Statistics Exam in May.  A $115 fee per exam will be included in your January tuition billing.

This course is ideal for students who will be going on to college and majoring in humanities, social sciences, psychology, etc.  If a student is planning on majoring in a science, engineering, or math field, it is necessary to have at least Pre-Calculus completed prior to graduation.

Prerequisite: Algebra 2 with a grade of “A” or Algebra 2/Trig (Honors) with a grade of “B” or Pre-Calculus/Pre-Calculus 1 (Honors) with a grade of “C”.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 completes the high school Algebra requirement.  Students learn to solve polynomial equations utilizing the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, conic sections, and introductory trigonometry.  Additional topics include conditional and joint probabilities, modeling and introductory data analysis and statistics.

Prerequisite:  Completion of Geometry or Geometry B

Stats

Statistics is designed for students who have completed a minimum of Algebra 2 and wish to continue their mathematical education but do not wish to take Pre-Calculus or AP Statistics.  Statistics will cover four (4) major topics:  Producing data, organizing data, probability, and statistical inference.  This course will utilize graphing calculator technology with a statistical package (such as the TI-84).  Successful completion of this course will prepare students for college-level statistics.
