Spanish 1The objective of the Foreign Language Department of Cathedral Catholic High School is to help the student to become an effective communicator who values the power and potential of the word and symbol to enrich, question, challenge, entertain, heal and solve problems in today’s world though the medium of the foreign language. The student is introduced to the sounds of Spanish through learning simple phrases useful for everyday conversation. The concepts that students are required to master in Spanish become progressively more difficult as the student progresses from one level to the next. At the beginning levels students acquire a foundation for further study of Spanish, an appreciation of the cultures extant in many Spanish-speaking countries as well as an introduction to the four skills of foreign language acquisition understanding, speaking, reading, and writing.
