KFC Colonel's Scholars ProgramKFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, and room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: enroll in a public (state-funded) college or university within your state of legal residence; earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75; plan to pursue a Bachelor’s degree; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; and demonstrate financial need. Award: Described Above Better Business Bureau Foundation 2012 Student Ambassador ProgramThe Better Business Bureau is a nonprofit association of businesses dedicated to protecting the economic well-being of the community by promoting ethics in the marketplace. One way that they do this is by educating consumers on how to be pro-active in their marketplace research, and how to identify and protect themselves from scams and fraud. The purpose of the Student Ambassador Program is to bring this information to the entry-level consumer. The Student Ambassador Program is designed to train students to deliver valuable information to peer groups on campus. The program is strictly voluntary, and the student will receive a certificate upon completion of the program, designating them an official Student Ambassador of the Better Business Bureau and recognizing their contribution of volunteer time toward marketplace ethics. Student Ambassadors will receive two hours of training on the educational information that they will be asked to share. They will then have the opportunity to develop and deliver their presentation to a small peer group. Ambassadors can also work in pairs and give the presentations as a team. Each Ambassador or Ambassador Team will be required to make the presentation to a minimum of one peer group per month, from March-May 2012. There will be scholarships awarded as incentive to students who give the most presentations. Award: Not Stated Proton Energy Systems OnSite Scholarship ProgramApplicants must fill out the Proton OnSite online application and submit a paper application packet in order to be considered. The application packet must be submitted with multiple copies in the order specified in the instructions. Conditions of Eligibility include: applicants must be seniors currently enrolled in a U.S. high school; applicants must be U.S. citizens; applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.6/4.0 (weighted) in high school; applicants must declare a science or technology-related major, or intend to pursue a major in one of these fields. Applicants are evaluated on: outstanding academic performance, ability and promise; commitment to further education and a career in a science or technology related field; strength of application; demonstrated leadership, work ethic and community involvement; financial need. it is the intent of the Proton OnSite Scholarship Program to support incoming undergraduate students for up to a maximum of four academic years. Award: Not Stated California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)/Farmers Scholar-Athlete of the YearCalifornia Interscholastic Federation (CIF)/Farmers Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award: Described Above American Meteorological Society (AMS) Freshman Undergraduate ScholarshipTo help support the college educations of students who intend to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. The two-year scholarships, funded by industry, one government agency, and AMS members, are for $2,500 for a nine-month period in the freshman year and an additional $2,500 for a nine-month period in the sophomore year. Second year funding depends on successful completion of the first academic year. Students who will be entering their freshman year of college in fall 2012 are eligible to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status. Applicants must be entering their freshman year of college as a full-time student and plan to pursue a degree in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. Award: Described Above San Diego Foundation Scholarship ProgramThe San Diego Foundation offers an online application for students to apply for thousands of dollars in scholarships. They offer over 100 scholarships on its 2012-2013 Common Scholarship Application, each with its own unique criteria. With this one application, students can apply for a variety of scholarships by using just one application and submitting one set of materials. The Foundation also offers a list of a separate group of scholarships, each with its own set of application materials and deadlines, in addition to the numerous scholarships offered as part of the Common Application. The Foundation recommends that you contact each organization offering these scholarships directly for more information. This scholarship is for graduating seniors from Horizon High School and Cathedral Catholic High School who plan to attend an accredited four-year university in the United States. Students must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and be involved in serving the community as demonstrated by involvement in community service and extra‐curricular activities such as sports and music. Additional material that must be submitted: Essay (one page, typed, double‐spaced) on the role that Jesus Christ plays in the applicant’s life. Award: Not Stated Best Buy @15 Scholarship ProgramThe Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program will award scholarships to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation. A total of up to 1,200 students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Students who plan to attend post-secondary education, have solid grades and are involved in community service or work experience are encouraged to apply. Scholarship applications are only available online. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, volunteerism efforts and work experience. Award: $6,000 Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement of AT&T Scholarship ProgramAsian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA) is an employee resource group of AT&T Inc. A major goal of the group is to promote diversity and its advantages throughout their corporation and their communities. One way they accomplish this goal is by granting annual non-renewable scholarships to college-bound high school students. For the 2012 Program, they will be awarding ten $2,000 scholarships. The APCA Scholarship Program is open to: all full-time graduating high school seniors in good academic standing (minimum GPA 3.2 on 4-point scale, or 4.00 on 5-point scale), of any ethnic or cultural background, who plans to attend an accredited college (2year and 4-year) or vocational school; applicants must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident of the United States; they must be a resident of one of the following states or metropolitan areas where there is current an APCA chapter—Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Texas, and the Washington DC Metropolitan Area (Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia); at least one of the scholarships will be awarded to the top-scoring child or legal dependent of a current APCA member in good standing. Award: Described Above National Future Farmers of America (FFA) ScholarshipsEach year the National FFA Organization awards approximately $2 million in scholarships designed to fit the diversity of their applicants. Scholarships are sponsored by businesses and individuals through the National FFA Foundation and are given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. The selection process takes into account the whole student--FFA involvement, work experience, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), community service, leadership skills and academics. There are more than 1,000 scholarships available and only one application to complete. Not all scholarships require FFA membership. Award: Not Stated Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College ScholarshipThis scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for college-bound students to give thoughtful consideration to the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on their own lives and others in their family and community. Students are required to submit an autobiography and write a 1,200 to 1,500 word essay that answers the following questions: How has Alzheimer’s disease changed or impacted your life?; What have you learned about yourself, your family and/or your community in the face of coping with Alzheimer’s disease. To qualify, a student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must also enter a four-year accredited college or university within 12 months of the application deadline. Students must be currently enrolled in a public, independent, parochial, military, home-school or other high school in the United States and must submit all required materials by the application deadline. AFA will award a $5,000 scholarship to the grand-prize winner, a $500 award to the first runner-up and a $250 award to the second runner-up. Award: Not Stated San Diego County Salute to Education ScholarshipThis program aims at recruiting students who deserve recognition for their personal accomplishments and contributions to their schools and communities. Academic achievement is considered, but it is not the sole determining factor in receiving a Salute to Education scholarship. Eligibility requirements to apply are as follows: the applicant must be a resident of San Diego County; the applicant must be a senior high school student attending an accredited public or private school in San Diego County; the applicant must be scheduled to graduate in the spring semester and have a desire to continue his or her education at a vocational/technical school, junior college, college or university; all high school seniors may apply regardless of the GPA. Judges will select the scholarship recipients based on their personal achievements, financial need, personal challenges, academic accomplishments, contributions to their communities and schools, and overall character. The students can apply for a scholarship in any one of the following categories: arts, athletics, automotive, building design/construction, business management/administration; computer science/technology, education, foreign language, general, language arts, mathematics, medical, performing arts, science, social science, and vocational/technical. One hundred San Diego high school students will receive scholarships for this school year. Award: $1,000 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship ProgramHonoring the legacy and character of our nation's 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Each year, roughly 20 Scholars will receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for an additional three years--up to $40,000 total per recipient. Award: Described Above Rancho Bernardo Republican Women Federated Scholarship ProgramThe Rancho Bernardo Republican Women Federated (RBRWF) will be presenting a scholarship award of at least $1,000 (last year they awarded $2,000). Students must be a graduating senior (2012) to enter. You are required to write an essay with your thoughts on the subject (not to exceed 1,000 words) "What the U.S. Constitution Means To Me." Applicants are ranked and rated by their written essay, GPA, class standing, SAT scores, and school/community/political activities. The RBRWF winner's essay will then be entered into competition with the winning essays of the other San Diego County Federation of Republican Women (SDCFRW) clubs where the first place winner will be awarded $2,000 and second place will receive $1,000. The first place winner of the SDCFRW Scholarship will be entered into competition with other winners from seven counties in southern California for the Charlotte Mousel Scholarship, sponsored by the California Federation of Republican Women, Southern Division. You must be a First Place SDCFRW winner to compete for the Charlotte Mousel Scholarship. The first place winner is awarded $1,500 and second place is awarded $1,000. Award: Described Above Lowe’s Scholarship ProgramLowe’s will award 140 $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors who intend to enroll full-time in an undergraduate course of study in the U.S. for the 2012-2013 school year. The Lowe’s Scholarship is available to all eligible students within the United States, including Lowe’s employees and their children. Eligible candidates must: be current high school seniors; maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale; demonstrate a history of commitment to their community through leadership activities, community service and/or work experience. Lowe’s also offers the Carl Buchan Scholarship to U.S. full- and part-time regular Lowe’s employees, their spouses/domestic partners and their dependents. Lowe’s will award 50 $5,000 scholarships in this category. Award: Described Above Buick Achievers Scholarship ProgramApplicants must: be high school seniors who are first-time college students in the fall of 2012; plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university for the entire 2012-13 academic year; plan to major in a course of study that focuses on engineering/technology or select design and business-related programs of study; be interested in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries; be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States. Their college scholarships recognize high school seniors that not only have achiev ed success in school but that also give back to our community through volunteer service and have overcome personal obstacles. Cox will award $75,000 in scholarships to students across their San Diego, Orange County, Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara service areas. This program is available to high school seniors living near a Simon property (list available at http://www.simon.com) who plan to enroll no later than fall 2012 in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school. Award: Not Stated California Farm Bureau Federation ScholarshipThe California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation was organized to give aid to students with a desire to pursue a career in the agricultural industry. The scholarships are awarded annually based upon academic achievement, career goals, extracurricular activities, determination, leadership skills, and a commitment to study agriculture. Any undergraduate student entering or attending a four-year accredited college or university in California and pursuing a career in the agricultural industry is eligible. Students entering or attending a junior college are not eligible for the CFBF scholarship. Students must be a resident of the State of California. Each year, the Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors determines the award amounts depending on the funds available. In recent years, the range has been $1,500 to $2,750. An applicant must be: a U.S. student entering freshman year of undergraduate study at a Catholic college or Catholic university in the United States; a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus or the wife, widow, son or daughter of such a member or deceased member (Fourth Degree membership is not a qualification for scholarship eligibility). Award: $1,500 SportQuest Playing With Purpose Scholarship ProgramThe purpose of this scholarship is to: encourage and reward Christian student athletes for their athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, and boldness to impact their generation through a life of Christian character; reinforce the commitment of Christian student athletes to excel with integrity in every area of life; present the accomplishments of high school Christian student athletes to colleges and universities for potential scholarships and media outlets for national recognition; and challenge athletes and coaches to become greater leaders by serving others. Student Athletes that meet the scholarship criteria may be nominated for the scholarship in two ways: nominated by school, coach, youth pastor, parent, or others (the nominator simply informs the athlete of the scholarship and provides instructions on how to apply online; the nominator does not complete forms or paperwork); peer or self nomination. Students must have been a San Diego County resident for at least one year. Applicants for this award will be given a very brief, information interview at CCHS in early spring 2012. Award: $1,000 BECA Foundation ScholarshipsTwo scholarships funds are available to eligible students: General Scholarships and The Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Scholarship. Scholarships are contingent upon a student’s financial need, scholastic abilities, and community contributions. Award: $500 University of Great Falls Catholic High School ScholarshipTo be eligible, students: must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better and/or an ACT cumulative score of 22 or better and/or SAT two-component cumulative score of 1020 or better; must attend a Catholic high school and must be recommended by a high school counselor, principal or teacher; must present a resume of service and/or leadership demonstrating participation in service organizations or individual efforts; must visit the University of Great Falls campus and interview; must write a 500 word essay about the student's alignment with the University mission statement and the Providence values; must maintain a 3.0 GPA while at the University of great Falls to retain the scholarship.
