College counselors support students’ academic, college/career and social-emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive counseling program that promotes student success.

College counselors advise and work with second semester 11th- and 12th- grade students on the college process, overview and planning. They continue social-emotional support and academic monitoring to ensure students stay on track for graduation and college admissions.

Grade 11
  • Students transition to their college counselor in the spring of their junior year so the counselor can provide individualized post-secondary planning and preparation support. College counselors present to 11th-grade classes before meeting individually with students to finalize senior year courses and begin post-secondary planning.
  • These presentations and meetings center around course registration, college fit, testing strategy, letters of recommendation, graduation check, application timeline, selection process and post-secondary options.
Grade 12
  • At the start of the fall semester college counselors present to 12th-grade classes before meeting individually to organize every student’s post-secondary process.
  • College counselors support students by finalizing college lists, standardized testing plans, writing letters of recommendation, discussing financial aid and scholarships, hosting application workshops and being available for students’ specific questions.

My experience working with my college counselor has been extremely rewarding. She was able to answer all my questions regarding the application process and, more importantly, provided valuable insight based on my interests and strengths. - Heather Lyons ‘22
